Corey Coles Promoted to AAA

After compiling a solid  .296/.352/.358 line at AA Binghamton, B-Mets outfielder Corey Coles was promoted to AAA New Orleans.

For those that don’t know, Coles is one of those players that has fallen victim to just about every unjust way the Mets treat minor league players in their system, including as a collegiate player getting sent back to Brooklyn in 2004, and playing two entire years at a Hagerstown and A+ St. Lucie when it was blatantly obvious he was too advanced for that level.

For those that read this blog, you know I’d love to see the Mets take a chance on youth when they need a replacement at the big league level, but with Ben Johnson and Ricky Ledee in AAA, and to a lesser extent David Newham, it’s highly unlikely Coles will ever get a shot at the big league level. I hate to say it, but he’s much of the same player Paul lo Duca was in the minor leagues, with a propensity to compile a high AVG. and never strikeout, while his OBP: was always so low due to an inability to take a walk. It’ll be interesting to see if Coles high GB% will finally catch up to him.

As a side note, for those that are wondering why Caleb Stewart wasn’t promoted, he’s hitting .175/.260/.206 in the month of July. Should’ve traded him back in May when he was on fire, which is certainly not a second guess of mine, as his value is now plummeting.
