In a day of surprises, starting with Scott Blowenweis pitching a scorless wins, the Cyclones followed that up with a loss, but this time it was due to the starting pitching.

The Renegades got on the board first, after the Cyclones failed to execute with runners in scoring position scoirng, Maiko Loyola tripled to the deepest part of the ballpark, sending Raul Reyes chasing for the ball and Cody Cipriano’s sacrafice fly scored the first run.

A timely throwing error by the Renegades catcher Mike McCormick allowed the Cyclones to score anonther run in the third, but the Reneages came right back at them in the next half of the inning. Reminiscent of Wednesday’s thriller with reliever Dilon Gee, Waechter looked as though he was on the verge of settling down and was hitting the strike zone with more consistency, but with two outs, Cyclones killer Maiko Loyola walked and stole second, rattling Waecheter who went on to throw a wild pitch, and set the tone for Stepehn Vogt’s two run homer.

The Cyclones took out Waecheter, who had exceeded his tight pitch count, but Steven Cheney and his wicked slider, who’s been solid early on for Brooklyn, had his second straight bad outing for Brooklyn, allowing back-to-back homer to none other than Loyola and Cipriano. Brooklyn tried to rally itself back into the game as usual, but at that point the damage was done. Noah Booth shut the door in the ninth, handing the Cyclones a loss.

Notes: It was a an otherwise sloppy defensive showing for the Reneages, who allowed three errors, one of which, a throwing error by pitcher Della Grotta, gave the Cyclones a chance to add to the two runs they’d already scored in the inning, but two consecutive flyouts stranded Micha Schilling at second and Matt Bouhcard at third, both of whom reached on a double steal.
