To replace the struggling Mike Nickeas (.216/.389/.311) at A+ St. Lucie, The Mets have promoted catcher Sean McCraw from Savannah.
This move should benefit McCraw in terms of playing time, since with all the hype surrounding Francisco Pena, McCraw played most of his time as a DH, and occasionally filling in in the outfield and behind the [...]

Yesterday, the St. Luice Mets placed infielder Jose Castro on the disabled list with a hamstring injury.
Castro’s certainly not a prospect that excites me, since his value is essentially tied into his high batting average, which is also the result of a ton of infield hits, but he’s neverthelss a player that does have some [...]

After missing his last start on Friday due to food poisoning, he supposedly has still been suffering from the same ailment and has been pulled from his start once again.
The fact is that he really did have food poisoning on Friday. It’s plausbile to think, however, that Jim Bowden would finally drop his exorbitant asking price, with the [...]

I’ve had plenty to write about within the last week as a result of the trade deadline, but for the month of August, which is probably the last month I’ll consistently update this blog, since I’m a student and will not have time to write into well, yeah, June 2008.
So, I’m looking for some recommnedations [...]

it’s official now: The Mets traded prospects Dustin Martin and Drew Butera to Minnesota for Luis Castillo.
To me, there are several ways to look at this.. The first way is that Castillo serves absolutely no purpose to the Mets this year except as a backup infielder. The only reason most people are seemingly worried about [...]

We haven’t heard too much on J.R. Voyles recently, who in the tenth inning of last Firday’s game, was beaned in the head by a fastball, and was in and out of consciousness.
Fortunately, the buzz now is that Voyles is ok; he recieved 20 stitches and isn’t expected to be placed on the DL.

Jesus Flores, a catcher with the St. Lucie Mets last year and was selected by the Washington Nationals in the Rule 5 Draft last winter, hit his first career HR this afternoon against the Phillies.
Now, I never was a big fan of Flores’s. Had I had a blog last year, I probably would’ve said he [...]

BABIP is often used as a measure of whether a player has been “lucky” or “unlucky.” It has been proven for quite some time now that pitchers can do little to prevent hits per balls in play. When it comes to hitters, however, BABIP can be the effect of poor/great contact, [...]

Not much has been said about why J.R. Voyles hasn’t played since July 14th. This is partly because there’s such insufficient coverage in the minor league, particulary SS ball, while it’s also partly because Jacob Eigsti has been playing so well in his abscence.
The word is that Voyles left in the middle of the gamr [...]

In a recent chat at Baseball Prospectus, Kevin Goldstein was asked about his thoughts on several Mets prospects:
Asked whether Mets fans should be excited about Mike Carp:
Not really. Last scout I talked to was pretty unimpressed. Bad athlete with not enough hitting skills or power to make up for it.
I can see why scouts wouldn’t [...]
