Stat: New Orleans Players Pulling a Caleb Stewart?

Following a horrendous May, (6.43 era.) Jason Vargas’s luck finally turned the other way, as he’s pitched six innings or more in his last six starts, compiling an era. of 3.23 in June.

Similarly, Anderson Hernandez, who’s been all but forgotten, is htting .327/.357/.413 in the month of June.

Really, I think it’s the same thing with Caleb Stewart’s explosive May. Yes, I understand players go through the normal ups and downs in certain parts of the seasons, but all these guys are really tied together by the same motive; The Mets have a lot of depth in starting pitching, second base, and the outfield, so if they don’t get on a hot streak sooner than later, they really have no role in the organization.

The interesting thing about Vargas is that his strikeout rate is actually at its’ lowest rate this year- 16.%- but his command has been superb in June. Still, they’re all trade chips, but I wouldn’t give up Vargas for nothing. Many forget this kid has a decent ceiling. (2nd round pick in 2004)
