Opinion: Early Season Results Showing in Brooklyn

 Jason Jacobs, (#45)

Despite how corrupt we might tend to see the Cyclones lineup sometimes, but after watching tonight’s game, I felt compelled enough to share some thought’s four games in.

There’s a pretty strong implication that J.R. Voyles, who played second tonight, is likely going to stick there given his rocketing start. (.625/667/1.000)

But while watching the telecast on SNY last night, as elementary as it might sound, Kevin Burkhardt, who was doing the play by play, made a good point how, in Zach McAllister’s case, you have a kid being compared to Philip Hughes at a young age, and, ultimately, he’s going to be given every shot to succeed.

But with the Cyclones, it seems as though everyone has and will have to earn their role this year. Coming into the season, Edgar Alfonzo noted, “There are no real standouts at this point but everyone played well in extended spring training and we’ll see what happens when we start playing,” Alfonzo said.

The catching situation, and possibly first-base will be much of the same. While Jacobs started behind the plate Friday night, he seems destined for first-base, with Lucas Duda, a kid who has a sweet, left-handed stroke reminiscent of Mike Jacobs- Jacob’s swing is a bit longer in my opinion- srving as his competition. While the Cyclones have the comfort of the DH, this competitive rivalry will only carry over next year in A Ball.

The same thing goes for catcher, with a struggling Bucce likely to lose his playing time to Tatofrd very soon.

I think the Cyclones have the talent and not just the age factor, to go far this year.

  1. Hey, Matt!

I finally made it over here, and I must say, I am quite impressed. I don’t follow the minor leagues too closely, so I’m very glad that guys like you keep us at least somewhat aware of what’s happening.

I’ve been to Keyspan, and it’s a nice little park.

Do you go to any of the games?

  2. Hey Deb,
Thanks for checking the site out! And of course, for the kind words. I’ve honestly only been to Keyspan Park three times since there existence, and it’s a pretty entertaining place;)

i pretty much just listen into every game; it was a lot easier to do when the mrts were struggling, but the Cyclones have an interesting team this year, as mentioned in my post aove. More talent than last year.

    Kepe checking the site out.
