Roto World is reporting that the Cleveland Indians have designated Roberto Hernandez for assignment. When does Omar go out and circumvent his other big acquistion this year, Jake Gautreau?
I’m sure you guys will get the impression I’m yearning for a trade rumor pretty badly when I tell you I was considering waking up and writing a post about how the Mets should deal Anderson Hernandez for the Mike McDougal’s, the Todd Williams’s, or, according to Mark Healey, David Weathers.
But just like overpaying for Adam Dunn when you can get Xavier Nady, I realized that upon further examination, that might be a total waste for the Mets.
There are a lot of reasons why Hernandez would be a good fit for the Mets. While his strikout to walk rate of 16:14 is awful, his FIP is 4.75, and frankly, the Mets really need anonther insuarance guy, even with Pedro Feliciano possibly due for some serious regression to the mean. After all, why pay anything when you can just pick up something worth equall as much for nothing?
Nevertheless, David Weathers is more of a sure thing, with a K/BB ratio of over 3:0 and an era of 3.34, but, you think the Mets would be willing to bring back anyone from the dark days?
