Read: Sean Henry Takes Over lead-off Spot

At T.C. Palm, Eric Pfhaler writes about Sean Henry’s full-time transition to the lead-off spot . Quote:

Henry also is seeing a lot more pitches since batting .231 in April, which has allowed him to be a more effective hitter. He has raised his average to .281 and maintained power — Henry has a team-high seven home runs — while staying patient at the plate.

“I’ve learned that you need to take pitches, take strikes, especially in a long inning or even just leading off,” Henry said. “You’ve just got to learn how to take pitches to help your 2-3-4-5 (hitters), you know, down in the order to see some pitches.”

Now, for those of you that don’t know, Baseball Prospectus, when they do their annual rankings, tends to show an inclination towards athletic players- Henry being the perfect example of what I’m talking about- so it’s hard to now how much Baseball Prospectus meant in when they pegged Henry as a clear breakout canidate. In other words, they’re more intrested in looking smart on the off-chance their rankings/predictions actually come to fruition.

Still the results are showing after an awful May, (4.1 BB% 16.3 strikeout rate) and he’s even showed some more pop in May, (.561 SLG%) I hate to say it, but while these are the players I tend to not like due to the lack of plate discipline early on, but a late season break out could look pretty reminiscent of Carlos Gomez last year in Binghamton.
