I was originally planning on examining the Cyclones roster, but as far as what I’ve heard, it’s inundated with mistakes, so I’m going to have to put it off a bit. However, there’s a bagload of news surrounding the Mets- and Mark Bueherle isn’t even included, to give you an idea- so here are some things I need to get out of the way.
Leivi Ventura- a roster filler on most minor league rosters, an every day starter on the Sand Gnats roster, is acting like Manny before he’s able to play like Manny, (sorry, i missed using that phrase when describing Victor Diaz) is likely to be released sometime today, leaving an empty spot at 3rd for the Sand Gnats.
Who replaces him is as good as anyone’s guess, as we all know how accuraqte the Kinsport and GCL rosters must be. Savannah 2B Luis Rivera is headed to the GCL, for sure. Honestly, given the fact Juan Lagares started the season with Savannah, why would Omar hesitate to put Jose Jimenez, who turned 20 in may and posted a 1:1 BB/K rato in the DSL last summer? After all, it’s either he or Shawn Bowman.
99.9% likely going to Brooklyn:
Greg Mullens (pictured above)- He hasn’t been the worst starter on the Sand Gnats rotation, and I doubt the Mets would send down him instead of Privett just because they finally looked at Privett’s BABIP, (.404) but it came down to control problems. (27 walks, 24 strikouts) So, he isn’t this year’s Jacob Ruckle……
David Koons-…….. but this guy is. While i could frankly care less about a 23 year-old reliever, Koons is the main part of a bigger story; the Mets just don’t get it. They haven’t taking player development seriously once again, and despite the fact Koons might never even get past AA, he’s succeeded this year, (3.15 K/BB ratio, 2.78 eRa. 3.18 FIP)
75% likely going to Brookyln- While I haven’t ascertained that Tim Stronach is going down to Brooklyn, there’s been strong implications the Mets have decided to send him down instead of Privett. Again, I doubt the Mets are basing this off Privett’s BABIP, so my best guess is they’ve seen enough of Stronach’s struggles, (75 innings) than they have Privett (33 innings) Than again, John Ricco is the Mets stat guy, so you never know….
There you have it. Again, I planned on examining the Brooklyn roster, but I’m definitley going to have to put that one off. we should know more about the Savannah guys tomorrow, for sure, but we also have to deal with guys like John Holdzkom and Stephen Holmes, who we may not even know about until opening night June 19th.
