Buzz: Mets Need to Shake up the Lineup

It’s that time of the year, in the midst of an awful losing streak, that Ruben Gotay and Xavier Nady are the most popular names in Mets Land.

it seems within the last day or two, Mets fans should actually be happy because, of course, it increases the chance Ruben Gotay and Xavier Nady. Hearing Omar Minaya say Alou and Milledge are likely to be in St. Lucie for anonther two weeksm and let me, myself, throw in hammy, and all of that should be music to the ears of such a large group of Xavier Nady fans that it’s hard to call them a “bandwagon.”

Let me start off by saying that it isn’t going to happen, because as Fox Sports most accurate statement ever was, you wouldn’t know it, but the Mets have a lot of outfielders. Think about it. Beltran, Alou, Green, Chavez, Milledge, Gomez, Johnson.

Now, let’s look at it from the perspective that we’re the GM. Xavier Nady’s power has certainly materialized- 11 home runs, .224 ISOP, .511 SLG%- but he’s still putting up a meager .OBP, which is currently .344. Unless Omar is somehow able to pull off a deal sending Green packing (which I’d love to see) Nady isn’t going back to shea.

Than we have the curious case of Ruben Gotay. Now, again, Willie is going to do what he always do, and lean towards the veteran, Valentin. But complaining about Gotay’s playing time is worthless. We’re playing Valentin his money- $2.5 mil to start, while Gotay’s $375,000 to fill in every now and than. That doesn’t Gotay Gotay won’t get any playing time, but are we that desperate? I never liked the Valentin signing, but until Gotay can get his .OBP and actually outdoes Valentin, we have nothing to complain about.

With that being said, even with the small chance a change of scenery has any legs to it, Nady’s pretty much performing to Adam Dunn’s scale, which gives you an idea of how poorly managed the trade market seems.
