Dave Pinto made an intresting point on Baseball Musings today about the Mets inability to score runs:
With a 5-3 loss to the Dodgers Monday night, the New York Mets have now lost seven of their last eight games. During this time, they’re getting on base at a .302 clip. Up until the start of this streak, the high scoring offense posted a .349 OBA. And it’s a result of not walking. Through June 2nd, the team BB/AB was .108. Now, it’s .066. No wonder they’ve scored just 28 runs in their last eight games.
And of course, any that has been watching the Mets knows that they’ve struggled to take pitches. Now, to be honest, I usually don’t make too many blind statements without some statistical analysis to back it, but it just seemed to me that my eye wasn’t getting decieved when I saw Carlos Beltran- who has one walk since June 2nd- swing at the first pitch with runners in scoring position against the Phils.
