One Veteran Down, One More to Go

The title is a bit of an exaggeration, given the fact it’s inconcievable Glavine has hit some kind of an all time low, but there are certainly some pretty good odds Orlando “El Duque” Hernandez is likely to get bombed tonight. Let me start off by saying I weas against both of these signings; after all, younger is better, and the Mets probably would’ve gotten some compensation for Glavine. Now, I know a lot of people will tell me about “those leadership skills” that ” don’t show up on computer printouts” but all I know is, the Mets did a Roger Clemens= Yankees esque move by letting about a month move by to wait for Glavine’s decision, and let’s not forget about the best word of all: results.

Sure, I had and still have faith in Humber, although it’s, for the most part, the complete opposite with Pelfrey, but to use the rotation in transition phrase is a lousy excuse. Remember: Results, results, results.

That FIP era. of 4.13 is about to become a reality folks.

  1. Matt,
As always, love your optimism. C’mon, the Dodgers that El Duque faces have a lineup that in no way resembles what the Mets have faced this past weekend. It is totally reasonable and expected that El Duque will pitch another quality start. The intangible is that somehow this guy bears down when he has to and the Mets really need for him to step it up tonight, and I think he will.
